Charlotte Maskelony is a dramaturg, writer and editor.
She is assistant dramaturg in the music theater and concert divisions at Theater Freiburg in Germany. Currently, she’s working on Prometheus goes Taranto, a protest against industrial pollution that weaves Luigi Nono’s La fabbrica illuminata into mythology from Aeschylus and Hesiod. Last spring, she co-dramaturged the German premiere of the opera The Handmaid’s Tale, an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s iconic novel.
Charlotte has worked with Washington National Opera, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Glimmerglass Festival, American Opera Projects and the Saarländisches Staatstheater. Her time at the Staatstheater was supported through the Congress-Bundestag Exchange — a year-long State Department fellowship to Germany. She is proficient in German and has translated Wagner supertitles for the Glimmerglass Festival.
She’s originally from the Washington, D.C. area.
